Azolla Hydrogen is Coming to Calgary

We’re bringing a new hydrogen fuelling station to the city, building on the infrastructure we already have operating in Edmonton and taking another major step toward a more connected hydrogen network in Alberta. 

The new Calgary station will use Azolla’s Rapid Deployment Station technology, with the capacity to produce and dispense up to 300 kilograms of hydrogen per day. The station will support both 350 and 700 bar refuelling, giving fleets greater flexibility to put a wider range of hydrogen vehicles into operation. 

But the bigger story is what happens when infrastructure starts to connect. 

Connecting Edmonton and Calgary 

With Azolla hydrogen refuelling infrastructure in both Edmonton and Calgary, fleets will have access to hydrogen in Alberta’s two largest cities. 

That changes the possibilities for hydrogen transportation in the province. 

Fleets can begin thinking about routes, operations and deployments across a much larger geography. It creates more flexibility for existing hydrogen vehicles and a stronger foundation for organizations considering their first hydrogen deployment. 

For Azolla, Calgary is also the next step in scaling an approach we’ve already put into operation. 

Our Edmonton station has demonstrated what on-site hydrogen production and refuelling can look like in real-world fleet operations, including through Alberta winters. We’re taking that experience forward as we expand into Calgary. 

Infrastructure designed to grow with the market 

Hydrogen infrastructure needs to meet demand today without limiting what comes next. 

Our Rapid Deployment Station is designed with that growth in mind. The Calgary station will provide flexible infrastructure that can serve fleets as the market develops. 

It’s about putting infrastructure where it can unlock the next stage of hydrogen adoption, giving fleets greater confidence that fuel will be available as they make decisions about vehicles, routes and future investments. 

We’re working alongside organizations across Alberta, including the Calgary Region Hydrogen Hub and Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub, to strengthen the connections, infrastructure and demand needed to grow the province’s hydrogen economy. 

Edmonton proved what’s possible. 

Calgary is what’s next.
