Driving Toward Net-Zero: Azolla Hydrogen’s Fuelling Station Delivers Real Results
Edmonton, AB – Azolla Hydrogen is proud to share an exciting update to our operations at the Ellerslie Fuelling Station. In partnership with the City of Edmonton and Strathcona County, we’ve been operating our hydrogen fuelling station since July, demonstrating the reliability and readiness of hydrogen fuel for real-world applications.
Proving Hydrogen Mobility Works
From July to December 1st, 2025, the station has delivered impressive results.
With our Strathcona County partners, we enabled an estimated 11,500 hydrogen-fuelled kilometres. That's like driving to the East Coast and back.
And 99% fuel availability, now that’s what we call up time!
These results showcase how hydrogen fuelling can deliver the performance and reliability needed for demanding fleet operations.
Just as importantly, our reliable onsite hydrogen production is helping project partners maximize fleet performance and collect real-world insights into how fuel cell electric buses (FCEBs) operate in Canada’s diverse climate conditions, from summer heat to now winter temperatures. This hands-on learning is critical to scaling hydrogen mobility across the country.
Driving Toward a Net-Zero Future
This project is more than a pilot; it’s a tangible step toward decarbonizing transportation. Hydrogen-powered buses are running on city streets, helping to cut emissions, improve air quality, and advance Canada’s clean energy goals.
“This project is a powerful example of how Canada’s hydrogen economy is maturing to meet the needs of commercial fleets,” said Jared Sayers, CEO of Azolla Hydrogen. “As more organizations look to decarbonize their operations, hydrogen offers a practical, scalable solution that supports both environmental goals and economic growth here in Alberta and across the country.”
Collaboration and Innovation in Action
The success of this project reflects the strength of partnership between industry, government, and technology innovators working to accelerate the hydrogen economy in Alberta.
Azolla Hydrogen extends sincere thanks to the City of Edmonton, Strathcona County, Emissions Reduction Alberta, University of Alberta, The Transition Accelerator, Diesel Tech Industries, AMTA, and Edmonton International Airport for their support and shared commitment to a sustainable, zero tailpipe-emission future.
More Updates to Come!
Stay tuned for updates as the City of Edmonton uses the refuelling station to support mixed-use operations across various vehicle classes and job profiles, generating real-world data that demonstrates hydrogen’s viability for large municipal fleets.
